Hoher Besuch aus Ägypten: Dr. Hawass von Prof. Thorey operiert

Er ist „der vielleicht bekannteste Archäologe und berühmteste lebende Ägypter“ (FAZ) der Gegenwart, Dr. Zahi A. Hawaas. Der 76-jährige studierte und promovierte Archäologe kam vor wenigen Wochen zu Professor Thorey, um sich am Knie wegen Gonarthrose operieren zu lassen. Als erster Ägyptologe erhielt er einen Emmy Award in der Kategorie „Internationaler Fernsehfilm über Tutanchamun und das Tal der Könige“ (2005).
Darüber hinaus betreute Dr. Hawass zahlreiche Grabungsprojekte, z.B. an der 3. Pyramide, am Taltempel in Gizeh und die Restaurierung der Sphinx. Und er trieb die umfangreiche Renovierung des Ägyptischen Museums in Kairo voran.
Damit ihm seine Kniebeschwerden (Arthrose/ Gelenkverschleiß) nicht länger im Wege stehen, hat er sich jetzt vom Knieexperten Professor Thorey vom Internationalen Zentrum für Orthopädie der ATOS Klinik in Heidelberg erfolgreich behandeln und endoprothetisch versorgen lassen. Seinen Plänen, mindestens 14 weitere Museen mit antiken Sehenswürdigkeiten seines Heimatlandes zu eröffnen, steht nichts mehr im Wege.

A former minister of antiquities, Dr Hawass has no intention of retiring, as most people his age do, but he still has plenty of plans: “I work non-stop, eight days a week,” he jokes, recently unveiling four new tombs from the ancient Saqqara necropolis that are at least 4,000 years old.
The lecturer, author and film commentator is best known for his many documentaries on ancient Egypt and as an expert on the pharaoh Tutankhamun. He was the first Egyptologist to win an Emmy Award in the category “International Television Film on Tutankhamun and the Valley of the Kings” (2005).
He has also led many archaeological prohejcts, including the Third Pyramid, Giza Valley, and the restoration of the Sphinx. He also promoted the extensive renovation of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
To overcome his knee problems (arthritis), he has now been treated by knee expert Professor Thorey from the International Centre for Orthopaedics at the ATOS Clinic in Heidelberg, Germany. For now, nothing is stopping him from his plans for the future, which include opening at least 14 more museums of ancient artefacts from his homeland.
